A day in the life of Jason Shead, chief risk officer

5:45AM

I start the day with a shower and getting dressed. Afterward, I make a cup of tea for both my wife and myself. Following that, I dive into the morning rush with my children, by packing their lunches and ensuring they're prepared for school.

9:00AM

Once I get to the office in Hertfordshire, I then make a coffee (first of many) and then plan and prepare for my day ahead.

12:00PM

By the late morning I would have attended mutiple meetings. So by this point I will check in with the underwriting team, to discuss current cases.

1:00PM

An incredible perk to working at TAB is our in house chef, which I make full use of. I usually get my food and continue working at my desk.

2:00PM

After lunch, I am getting on with any project work or working on tasks that came up from previous meetings that day.

3:30PM

I move on to another cup of coffee and then start to look at what cases are at underwriting stage and check if any policies need reviewing and then attend any additional meetings.

5:45pm

I usually leave the office any time around 5:45 to 6ish and drive home.

7:30PM

Once I get home, I go to catch up with my wife and then we start to prepare dinner and settle in for the evening. This includes watching whatever we are binging at the time.

10:30PM

It is then time to sleep and do it all over again!

How long have you worked at TAB?

A year ago (October 2022), the time has flown by! I have been involved in financial services for 23 years. More notably as leading credit functions in short term property finance for over nine years.

What does your role at TAB involve?

Risk oversight for TAB whether this be credit risk or general operational. I liaise and meet with my peers in the executive team daily along with collaborating with every department. I assume direct responsibility for originations so that takes a lot of my day.

What’s the best thing about working at TAB?

The collaborative and open nature of the entire working environment. Each voice is heard. The agileness and ability to be make quick decisions is extremly important and we do this very well.

What is your favourite band or artist?

Tough one, as this changes a lot, but right now it has to be Biffy Clyro

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I would love to be able to fly!

What is your favourite restaurant?

Nobu

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Las Vegas or any city break with my wife

What is your daily coffee intake?

Too many to count.
